How a Book Is Made Here

From the first manuscript to the finished copy: the eighteen months between a yes and a book.

How a Book Is Made Here

We publish eight to ten books a year, which means every one of them gets the full attention of everyone here. This is roughly how it goes.

Reading and editing

A manuscript is read by at least two of us before we say yes. Then come two or three rounds of structural edits with the author, followed by a line edit and a copy-edit.

Design and printing

Each series has its own cover design, so a Halyard book is recognisable across a room. We choose the paper and typeface for each title, and every hardback is bound in cloth.

We would rather publish fewer books and stand behind every one of them.

A demo article for the Foliowick theme. The press, its authors and its books are fictional.
