The Art of Layering Fine Chains

Three lengths, two textures and one rule: leave a little space between each line.

The Art of Layering Fine Chains

Layering works best when every chain has room to be seen. Start with the finest piece at the shortest length, then add weight as you move down: a delicate pendant at the collarbone, a stronger link a few centimetres lower, and perhaps pearls lower still.

Mind the gaps

A difference of five centimetres or so between lengths keeps chains from tangling and lets each one read clearly. The standard 40, 45 and 50 centimetre lengths stack naturally.

Mix texture, not too many colours

A smooth cable chain beside a bold oval link is more interesting than two chains that look alike. Keeping to one or two metal colours keeps the look calm.
